Greycoat Soldiers
A Norman Blake classic. This "live" recording is actually a fake. I was testing a new portable recorder, and recorded several songs in my living room from a few feet away. I thought it would be amusing to add cafe room noise and polite applause.

Sympathetic Strings
I wrote this song for my daughter Abby on her 21st birthday. This is the one that started the whole project.

Please Baby Please
A fine and rollicking old John Mooney song. Peter Rockrise supplies harp, background vocals and claps.

Flattered by Fools
The last one written specifically for the album, and only the second instance ever of me using waltz time.

Too Much Information
A New Mexico song, which appeared previously as a demo many years ago. This is my first venture into banjo, and also includes some violin. My son Edwin plays drums.

Famous Friend
Another old one, never recorded except in demo.

When I Write the Book
This is a great song by Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. So, why would anybody in his right mind take a perky, upbeat 70s British pop song and slow it down to Geologic tempo? I don't know. Why not?

Only Every Day
Written for my wife Sarah on our 25th anniversary, and never recorded (except for the usual quickie demo). The chord progression is almost identical to the one used for Famous Friend. I'm not sure how that happened.

Toolpusher's Daughter
A recent addition. I have no idea what it's "about". It's not the wind, and it's not the water.

Francy and Don
I wrote this over a decade ago, and it was too long and strange to include on anything. 14 verses! Based vaguely upon real events. Peter plays harp and sings backing vocals.
