This was probably the most memorable year for me. Fun, friendships and songs, songs, songs. Also getting away with shit that a would horrify me today as a parent of teenagers. Nobody died, though.

This picture is unique in that a few years ago somebody sent me a scan of the back, whereon she had written all the names, including last names when known. I have omitted last names here, but if you're curious, write me. Here, then, is the caption:

It was the Year of the Hat. This is Spotswood. I bet you didn't even know there were cowboys from Crane, Texas, named Spotswood.

Lee was a straight arrow from Louisiana, but we got to be friends nonetheless.

My hero was Arlo. Can you tell?

Julia went to school in Egypt and spent her summers in Odessa, if you can picture that. Later I developed a mad crush, of course.

Steve was probably the most faithful Conference attendee ever. He was there every year that I was, and all the ones I missed. Perfect Attendance. Also a great guy.

Jack was almost too cool. He fronted his own so-so but indisputably loud rock band.

Bruce was a Lubbock cowboy with long hair and a switchblade. You could be that back then.
